www.chinaview.cn 2006-05-29 22:25:54

ISLAMABAD, May 29 (Xinhua) -- A group of 59 freed Pakistani fishermen on Monday were handed over to Pakistani authorities by India at the Wahga border, the Pakistani news agency News Network International (NNI) reported.

These Pakistani fishermen were strayed into Indian waters mistakenly, and fishermen say they lack the sophisticated equipment needed to warn them when they are in danger of entering the waters of another country, the NNI said.

The freed prisoners would remain in custody with the Pakistani authorities for brief questioning and would be allowed to rejoin their families on Tuesday, according to the NNI report.

Pakistan has announced that it will free a group of 71 Indian fishermen on May 30, who will be handed over to Indian authoritiesat the Wahga border.

Pakistan and India will open two-day talks in Islamabad on May 30 to discuss the issue of prisoners. Enditem
