SEOUL, May 29 (Xinhua) -- A South Korean official has said that Seoul and Pyongyang principally agreed to launch South Korean former President Kim Dae-jung's visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on June 27.
The announcement came after a one-day bilateral meeting between Jeong Se-hyun, South Korea's former Unification Minister, and Ri Jong-hyok, DPRK's vice chairman of the Asia-Pacific Peace Committee, on Monday in DPRK's border city of Kaesong.
The two sides "agreed that former President Kim Dae-jung will visit (DPRK) on 27th of next month using a land route," Jeong told reporters after returning from Kaesong, adding Kim Dae-jung will stay in the DPRK for four days.
However, Jeong said the two sides failed to reach agreements on other details of the upcoming visit, such as members accompanying Kim during the visit and detailed schedule.
Kim Dae-jung, who paid a historic visit to Pyongyang in 2000 and realized the first-ever inter-Korean summit with DPRK's top leader Kim Jong-il, was expected to meet with Kim Jong-il during his visit. Enditem |
