Crisis paralyzes Timor-Leste
www.chinaview.cn 2006-05-29 18:15:56

DILI, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Crisis has paralyzed all the daily activities in Timor-Leste and hampered the people from getting their daily needs.

Hundreds of internally displaced persons here on Monday vied to get rice aids in a state warehouse, leaving two injured.

Most of those living in refugee camps ran out of logistics and some of them only consumed instant noodle.

"There is no place to buy daily needs. The supply of goods can not enter the city under poor security," said 23-year-old Antoni Maya, an internally displaced person.

On Sunday, Foreign Minster Ramos Horta had to come to the warehouse to calm down the people who wanted to take the rice aids.

Thousands of people are still living in refugee camps in Dili. They are afraid to return to their residence because riots are frequent.

Markets, shops and governmental offices are still closed on Monday.

Tension has been worsening since recent days as some 600 soldiers were sacked from the military in April. At least 23 people have been killed and dozens were wounded since the fighting began in the past weeks. Enditem
