Sepcial Report: Tension accelerates in Iraq

ISLAMABAD, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Two Pakistani drivers, who were kidnapped in the war-torn Iraq last week, have been killed and their bodies have been sent to Kuwait for repatriation to the country, a TV channel reported on Monday.

Nasir Iqbal and Muhammd Munir were kidnapped when they were returning to Kuwait from Iraq, the Geo TV reported.

There was no official confirmation of the deaths.

The foreign office said on Sunday that efforts were initiated to trace the kidnapped men after reports of their abduction appeared in the media.

Reports suggested that the kidnapped Pakistanis were working for a Kuwait-based American transport company.

One section of the same company was also working in Iraq.

The Geo TV reported that dead bodies of the two men would be repatriated to Pakistan on Tuesday.

The foreign office has reiterated an earlier advisory telling Pakistanis to avoid traveling to Iraq.

Two Pakistani nationals were killed in Iraq in July 2004 after a militant group kidnapped them. Enditem
