JERUSALEM, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Militants of the Lebanese Hizbollah group exchanged fire with Israeli troops along the northern Israeli border on Sunday shortly after two Israeli airstrikes on eastern Lebanon.
Israeli soldiers returned fire after Hizbollah militants fired mortar shells and hit Israeli military and civilian targets in northern area, an Israeli Defense Forces spokesman told Xinhua.
In the wake of the Hizbollah attacks, Israel launched air strikes and artillery shells against the guerrillas, he said, adding that one Israeli soldier was wounded.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army told residents in the Manara, Margaliot communities along the northern Israeli border to enter bomb shelters.
Earlier in the day, one Palestinian militant was killed and five others injured in two Israeli airstrikes on eastern Lebanon.
Israel said that the strikes were in response to militants firing a spree of rockets on northern Israel from Lebanon, which wounded one Israeli soldier. Enditem |
