BEIRUT, May 28 (Xinhua) --
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (Holy War) on Sunday claimed responsibility for
firing rockets from Lebanon into northern Israel which wounded an Israeli
soldier.
The Islamic group said in a statement
that the rocket attacks were aimed to revenge the Israeli killing of a senior
Jihad member and his brother in southern Lebanon on
Friday.
The group also vowed to launch more
rockets from southern Lebanon unto Israel.
The rocket
attacks prompted Israel to launch two airstrikes on bases run by the Liberation
of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) in Lebanon, which killed one
Palestinian militant and injured five others.
Following the Israeli strikes, Lebanon's
Hizbollah militia clashed with Israeli forces along the border, during which a
Hizbollah militant was killed and an Israeli soldier was wounded.
Meanwhile, Israel carried out a new wave of air raids targeting Hizbollah strongholds in southern Lebanon. Enditem |
