Special Report: Earthquake in Indonesia

SEOUL, May 28 (Xinhua) -- A South Korean emergency medical team left for Indonesia Sunday afternoon to help earthquake victims.

The South Korean Foreign ministry said the medical, composed of 19 doctors, nurses and administrative officials, left for Jakarta at 3:20 pm local time (0630 GMT) with relief goods worth 100,000 U.S. dollars.

The Foreign Ministry said it is considering to dispatch extra medical and food supplies in coming days.

On Saturday, South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun sent condolences to thousands of earthquake victims in Indonesia.

"I hope that the Indonesian people will cope with the grievous situation and return to normal as soon as possible," Roh said in a message to Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

South Korean Foreign Ministry said Sunday there had been no reports about South Korean victims in the earthquake.

A powerful earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck the Indonesian ancient province of Yogyakarta and part of Central Java province Saturday morning, leaving more than 3,000 death in the affected area. Enditem
