Indonesia's quake death toll rises to over 300: hospitals

    JAKARTA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Preliminary reports from five major hospitals in Yogyakarta said more than 300 people were killed and thousands of others injured in a powerful tectonic earthquake which shook Yogyakarta province and parts of Central Java on Saturday morning.

    According to the reports from Dr Sardjito, Panti Rapih,Bethesda, PKU Muhammadiyah and Wirosabah hospitals, the bodies ofmore dead victims had continued to arrive at the hospitals until Saturday noon.

    In addition, thousands of injured victims had been admitted to those five hospitals, Antara news agency reported.The telecommunication network and electricity supply in Yogyakarta were cut off due to the earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale, which could be felt at the fifth level of Modified Marcelli Intensity (MMI).

    The quake's epicenter was located at 8.826 degrees south latitude and 110.23 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 33 kilometers below the sea level, about 37.6 kilometers south of Yogyakarta. Enditem
