JAKARTA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will visit earthquake-hit Yogyakarta province on Sunday, Elshinta Radio reported on Saturday.

Yudhoyono will take an overland trip to Yogyakarta because minor damage at the runway of Adi Sucipto airport caused by the earthquake makes it impossible for the president to take an air trip, said the report.

According to Detik. com reports, at least 15 people were killed and hundreds of others injured after the earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale shook Yogyakarta and several parts of Central Java early on Saturday.

Other reports said at least 95 people were killed during the earthquake, but it has not been confirmed by the authorities.

The earthquake left many houses and government office buildings into ruins in the city, official Antara news agency reported from Yogyakarta.

The earthquake which hit at 5:50 a.m. local time (2250 GMT, Friday) destroyed a number of infrastructures including houses, office buildings, a sport stadium and even caused the Adi Sucipto airport in Yogyakarta to suspend a number of flights.

Telecommunication network and electricity supply in Yogyakarta were cut off due to the earthquake, which is recorded at the fifth level of Modified Marcelli Intensity (MMI). Enditem
