Indonesian president orders to help for quake victims   (2006-05-27 15:11:12 )

    JAKARTA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has instructed Health Minister Siti Fadillah Supari and Social Affairs Minister Bakhtiar Chamsyah to go to Yogyakarta immediately to deliver relief aid and coordinate help for victims of earthquake which hit the city and its environs on Saturday morning. Indonesian president to visit earthquake-hit province    (2006-05-27 12:49:38)

    JAKARTA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will visit earthquake-hit Yogyakarta province on Sunday, Elshinta Radio reported on Saturday.

    Yudhoyono will take an overland trip to Yogyakarta because minor damage at the runway of Adi Sucipto airport caused by the earthquake makes it impossible for the president to take an air trip, said the report. Full story

Emergency status imposed in Indonesia's quake-hit area   (2006-05-27 11:43:34)

    JAKARTA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government announced Saturday an emergency status in the southern Java province of Yogyakarta following an earthquake.

    "The emergency status applies," presidential spokesman Andi Mallarangeng told local news website Detikcom.

    He said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has ordered related ministers and the provincial government to cooperate closely in handling the victims and providing humanitarian assistance. Full story
