JAKARTA, May 27 (Xinhua) -- At least 51 people were killed in an earthquake that hit Indonesia's Yogyakarta province Saturday morning, according to reports from local hospitals.

The Sardjito Hospital, the largest in the province, reported that it has received 41 bodies mostly from Bantul regency, the nearest to the epicenter beneath the Indian Ocean.

Meanwhile, at least 10 bodies were sent to the Bethesda Hospital within three hours after the 5.9-magnitude tremor struck the province at 05:50 local time (2250 GMT, Friday).

More than 1,000 people were injured in the earthquake. Enditem
