Five bodies recovered from flooded coal mine in Liaoning

SHENYANG, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Rescuers have recovered the bodies of five of the seven miners who were trapped in a flooded coal mine in northeast China's Liaoning Province more than 200 hours ago.

The five bodies were taken out of shaft as of 7:30 a.m. Friday. Rescuers have pumped out the floodwater and search for the two missing miners was still continuing at press time.

Rescuers said there were slim chances for the two missing to survive.

The flooding occurred at 1:30 a.m. last Wednesday when nine miners were working in a shaft of the Dongshan Coal Mine in Harqin Left Wing Mongolian Autonomous County. Two miners escaped and seven others were missing, according to the Liaoning Provincial Coal Mine Safety Supervision Administration.

The Dongshan Coal Mine had been ordered to suspend production for rectification in a bid to remove possible hidden danger before the accident occurred, according to the administration.

The coal mine owner has been seized by police for questioning. Enditem
