Beijing to buy Italian helicopters for 2008 Olympics

    BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Beijing police will purchase advanced helicopters from Italy Augustwestland Helicopter company, which will serve for security of 2008 Olympics.

    With its models exhibited at the third international police equipment exposition in Beijing, the blue-white color helicopter model attracted many viewers.

    Beijing police will purchase four such helicopters which will be delivered around April 2007, according to Beijing Daily.

    "To improve the police facilities plays an important role in enhance our police's overall fighting capability," said Luo Gan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, when visiting the exhibition Thursday.

    Luo asked police organs to closely follow the international advanced technologies and speed up China's own research and innovation in the field.

    More than 300 companies from 16 countries participated in the exposition which is held May 24-27. Enditem
