HARBIN, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Two forest fires raging for four days have forced
the evacuation of 146 people in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province,
local forestry sources said on Thursday.
Nearly 6,000 firemen and forest rangers are fighting against the fires that
broke out last Sunday at Galashan Forest Farm of Heihe City and at Kanduhe
Forest Farm at the Greater Hinggan Mountains.
One hundred and twenty residents in Beijiang Town of Huma
County and 26 at Galashan Forest Farm were evacuated on Wednesday night, while no injuries
were reported.
The fires have already spread due to strong wind and dry weather, but there
is till now no statistics on the exact acreage of the forest engulfed by fires,
said the provincial headquarters for forest fire control.
Local government are busy evacuating more residents threatened by the
raging forest fires.
Zhang Zuoji, governor of Heilongjiang province, ordered local authorities
to quickly put the fires under control, go all out to prevent new fires and
ensure the safety of the local residents. Enditem |
