SOFIA, May 25 (Xinhua) -- The Bulgarian National Veterinary Services are
strengthening control measures at the border with Romania, whose capital has
been seriously hit by bird flu, Sofia News Agency reported Thursday.
Bulgaria is imposing strict measures to personal and material movement through the
border checkpoints with its northern neighbor, in order to stop the spread
of the virus, said Zheko Baichev, head of the Bulgarian National
Veterinary Services.
By now, no signals of revival of the avian flu have been detected in Bulgaria.
Some wild swans were confirmed to carry H5N1 virus in the territory of
Bulgaria in February.
On Sunday, the Romanian authorities confirmed the deadly H5N1 bird flu
virus strain in two central Romanian counties. Romania has so far confirmed 34
outbreaks of bird flu in six counties. Enditem |
