Militants set on fire US base-bound trucks in Afghanistan

KABUL, May 25 (Xinhua) -- Unknown militants set on fire three U.S. base-bound trucks and killed their drivers in the southeast Paktika province on Wednesday, provincial governor said Thursday.

"The enemies of peace set ablaze three trucks and murdered their drivers in Wazokhah district of Paktika province Wednesday for transporting logistical support to the coalition bases," Paktika province governor Akram Khupalwak told Xinhua.

No one has been arrested in this case so far while investigation is underway, he added.

This is the first time that drivers supplying logistical support to U.S. military in Afghanistan have been targeted.

The Taliban-linked militias in the past set on fire several U.S.-bound trucks in the southern Kandahar province but spared the drivers.

Taliban-linked insurgency has claimed the lives of more than 350 people over past one week only. Enditem
