BEIJING, May 25 -- Because of his admiration of Mainland China director Xie Jin, Andy Lau is willing to accept a low fee of 700,000 yuan (around $90,000 US) to be cast in Xie's new movie, Romantic Evening (literally translated), shooting will start in Hanzhou in June. In a recent press conference, Xie openly expressed that he was very touched that Andy was willing to accept such a low fee to be cast in his movie.

Having a healthy image, other than being the male lead for Xie's new movie, Andy Lau was also cast as the male lead for Stanley Tong's new movie, Diary (literally translated) in which he will play an anti-Japanese hero. Diary is based on the Nanjing Massacre. This is the first time that The State Administration of Radio Film and TV P.R.C has relaxed their restriction in 20 years to allow a movie on the Nanjing Massacre.

Stanley Tong has stated that shooting for Diary will start at the end of the year. It's estimated to have a budget of US$35 million. He has Andy Lau, Chow Yun Fat and Maggie Cheung cast in the leading roles. Other cast members will be decided at a later date.
