British military aircraft crashes in Afghanistan
www.chinaview.cn 2006-05-24 19:41:32

KABUL, May 24 (Xinhua) -- A British military aircraft caught on fire after landing in the southern Afghan province of Helmand on Wednesday, a spokesman of British troops confirmed.

"It was a Hercules C-130 aircraft had an accident but there was no casualty," Lt. David Douunie told Xinhua.

Commenting on the cause of the incident, he said the case would be investigated.

The eyewitness said that the ill-fated Hercules C-130 was on fire after landing at an airbase close to Lashkargah, capital of Helmand province.

Helmand in the south Afghanistan, where hundreds of the British troops have been stationed, has been the scene of increasing Taliban-linked insurgency over the past one week during which dozens of people have lost their lives.

Taliban-led insurgency has claimed the lives of more than 350 people over the past one week, mostly in the southern region where hundreds of Taliban fighters are said to have hidden.

A U.S. chartered Russian helicopter with 11 aboard also crashed in Helmand province some two weeks ago. Enditem
