WASHINGTON, May 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Men's National Team dropped the opening game of the Send- Off Series, 0-1, to Morocco at the Nashville Coliseum, TN, Tuesday night.

The team, led by coach Bruce Arena, will play two more friendlies before departing for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, where they will begin their first World Cup match on June 12 against the Czech Republic at Group E.

It was the first time that this group played together, and it showed on the offensive side of the field. The Americans took 11 shots, only four of which landed on goal.

The U.S. defense broke down in the 90th minute, allowing Mohamed Madihi to score the game-winner for Morocco. The substitute received a pass at the top of the box, made two touches and fired the ball over goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

Bobby Convey came close to netting the equalizer in the final minute of added time with a free kick from 30 yards out, but his left-footed shot just missed the near post, going wide.

The U.S. played most of the match without captain Claudio Reyna, who left the field in the 17th minute on what appeared to be a right hamstring injury. The team hopes the setback is not serious, but Reyna has a history of various injuries, including a hamstring problem which kept him out of the entire 1994 World Cup.

The U.S. team returns to the field May 26 for a match with Venezuela. Enditem
