German Chancellor Merkel kicks off China tour

    BEIJING, May 21 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived here on Sunday night, kicking off an official visit to China from May 21 to 23.

    This is the German chancellor's first visit to China since she came to power in November 2005.

German chancellor leaves Berlin for China visit

    BERLIN, May 21 (Xinhua) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel left here Sunday for China on a brief visit in which the chancellor is expected to discuss with Chinese leaders international and trade issues.

    Merkel, on her first visit to China since she became German chancellor, will call on China to play a bigger role in solving international issues, including the nuclear crisis in Iran and the disputes in Sudan.

China to promote Sino-German ties with Merkel-led gov't

    BERLIN, Nov. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here on Friday that China is willing to work together with the new German government to push forward the bilateral relations.

    During his meeting with designated chancellor Angela Merkel, Hu congratulated her on becoming the first woman chancellor in the German history, and spoke highly of her long-term contributions to the development of Sino-German relations.
