China calls for furthering China-Germany ties

    BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday called for furthering China-Germany relations to enhance their global responsibilities based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit.

    "China regards its ties with Germany as extremely important and is willing to make concerted efforts with Germany to foster all-round China-EU partnership and achieve sustainable peace and common prosperity of the world", Chinese President Hu Jintao said in his meeting with visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

China "positive" on maglev cooperation with Germany: Premier

    BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said Monday that his government is "positive" in continuing cooperation with Germany on magnetic levitation (maglev) railway development.

    "The cooperation between China and Germany on maglev railways has been fruitful," Wen said when asked why his talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel failed to yield a new contract.

China, Germany sign 19 cooperation documents

    BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhua) -- China and Germany inked 19 documents of bilateral cooperation here Monday, with Premier Wen Jiabao and visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel attending the signing ceremony.

    These documents mainly cover such fields as railway technology, financial cooperation, high tech dialogue, telecommunications, energy, culture and sports. The two sides also signed a memorandum of understanding on the protection of intellectual property in textile industry.
