BEIJING, May 22 (Xinhuanet) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Monday that Anders Nordstrom from Sweden will succeed Lee Jong Wook to become the organization's acting director-general.

Nordstrom was formerly assistant director-general of the organization when Lee Jong-wook was alive. The latter suddenly died in Geneva on early Monday morning from a bood clot on the brain.

Lee, 61, a South Korean, was formerly director general of the World Health Organization. He fell ill at a luncheon on Saturday in Geneva at the beginning of a weeklong meeting called the World Health Assembly. Paramedics took him to the Cantonal Hospital in Geneva, where he had an emergency brain surgery but died within 48 hours.

Lee had led the health organization since 2003. Enditem
