Special
report: Crisis between Israel and
Palestine
JERUSALEM, May 21 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian Qassam rocket hit an empty
classroom in a school in the Israeli border town of Sderot Sunday morning,
causing no casualty, Israeli Army Radio reported.
The radio said that all the students went out for morning prayers when the
rocket punched the classroom.
However, the classroom and nearby restrooms were severely damaged, the
radio said, adding that many students were taken back home by their parents
after the attack.
A witness called Shai Yisarel was quoted by the radio as saying that
"Suddenly we heard the 'Red Dawn' warning that a Qassam was heading our way. A
sharp sound of a whistle followed. This is a miracle and we are all very
emotional at present."
Earlier, another rocket launched from northern Gaza Strip landed near Gevim
junction in the western Negev on Sunday morning, leading to hospitalization of
two women for mental shock.
The Israeli army conducted an arrest operation throughout the West Bank
overnight Saturday, detaining six Palestinian fugitives from the Islamic Jihad
(Holy War), Fatah and Hamas movements.
Meanwhile, a Palestinian woman was killed during an Israeli military
operation in the West Bank town of Nablus before dawn on Sunday, Palestinian
medics said.
The Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, armed wing of the Fatah movement, accused
the Israeli army of shooting a Palestinian woman dead as she looked out of the
window, a charge denied by the Israeli army which claimed that troops were
attacked by gunshots during the arrest operation but did not return fire.
Israeli soldiers later withdrew from Nablus without making any arrest, the
Israeli army said. Enditem |
