GAZA, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Two Palestinians including a top leader of the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) were killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza City on Saturday, Palestinian witnesses and medics said.

An earlier report said that the two killed were members of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

Witnesses said that an Israeli drone fired two missiles at a pickup in Gaza City, badly damaging the vehicle and nearby cars.

A top Jihad militant commander was killed and the other fatality was a Palestinian woman in a car near the targeted pickup, said witnesses.

Meanwhile, sources identified the killed Jihad militant as Mohamed Dahdouh, commander of Jihad's armed wing Saraya al-Quds in the Gaza Strip.

Jom'aa Saqqa, chief of emergency at Shiffa Hospital in Gaza City said that six other people were also wounded, including a woman and her child, both of whom were in critical condition.

The Israeli army confirmed the airstrike.

Israel has stepped up military operations against Jihad since a Jihad suicide bomber blew himself up in Tel Aviv on April 17, killing 11 people and injuring dozens of others.

On May 14, another senior Jihad militant was killed by Israeli troops in the West Bank. Enditem
