ANKARA, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova, who was earlier reported to participate in the WTA Istanbul Cup Tennis Tournament, has withdrawn, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported on Friday.

Istanbul Cup Organization Committee said in a written statement that Sharapova, ranked 4th in WTA list, had to withdraw from the Cup as the injury in her ankle recurred.

The 13th-ranked Anastasia Myskina of Russia and No. 14 Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany are now the highest ranked players to attend the tournament. Enditem
