WASHINGTON, May 19 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice
thanked Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono for urging Iran to be a
responsible member of the international community, the State Department said on
Friday.
"The secretary was thankful to President Yudhoyono for talking to the
Iranian government about the need for them to be responsible members of the
international community," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said at a
briefing.
Rice made the remarks during her meeting with visiting Indonesian Foreign
Affairs Minister Hassan Wirajudha earlier Friday.
"I believe Indonesia's position on this is that they believe that there is
a right to peaceful nuclear energy, but they also would call upon Iran to abide
by their international treaty obligations," McCormack said.
Moreover, Indonesian officials have expressed concern that Iran's behavior
on nuclear matters may be limiting the ability of countries to access peaceful
nuclear technology, McCormack said. Enditem
