HAVANA, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Cuban chess grandmaster Walter Arencibia told media on Thursday that Cuban will send men's and women's teams to play in the 37th Chess Olympics, due to begin in Turin, Italy, May 21.

The six-player mens' team aims to beat the 33.5 points scored two years ago in Calvia, Spain, he said. He will defend table number four.

He said that the team had shown good team spirit in recent days, during a training camp, where they talked strategy, analyzed positions and played speed chess.

"I believe we have a more seasoned team," said 1986's youth chess champion, who will play for the ninth time in Turin.

Cuba's team, in table order, is as follows: Lazaro Bruzon, Leinier Dominguez, Jesus Noguieras, Arencibia, Neuris Delgado, Yuniesky Quesada. All the team are grandmasters and all competed in the 36th Olympics. Bruzon, Cuba's top player, is 55th in the world.

The women's team is as follows: Sulennis Pina, Jennifer Perez, Yaniet Marrero, Maritza Arribas.

Cuba's women's team were 24th in the world in 2004. Their best ever position was eighth, in 1988. Enditem
