LAGOS, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria has been elected a member of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission, the official News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported on Thursday.
The commission which was founded earlier this year as part of reforms demanded by world leaders last September is made up of 31 members elected or selected.
Top ten financial contributors to the UN budgets and top ten troop contributors to UN peacekeeping are allocated five seats each.
Apart from Nigeria, other members of the committee include Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Ghana. They were selected among the top ten troop contributors to UN peacekeeping missions.
Those elected to the committee on the strength of top ten financial contributors are Japan, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and Norway. Enditem
