BEIJING, May 18 -- China Super League champions
Dalian failed to advance in the Asian Champions League tournament after losing
3-1 to South Korea's Jenobuk Hyundai Motors.
Dalian had the upper hand as they went into the game
with a total of 12 points, two more than their South Korean rivals. The Chinese
club drew the first blood in the 57th minute when a perfectly weighted pass from
Bulgarian midfielder Zoran Jankovic released Zou Jie and the 25-year-old rounded
the out-rushing Kwoun and threaded the ball into the unguarded net from an acute
angle.
However, a determined Jeonbuk continued their
offences, and midfielder Kim Hyeung-bum struck the equaliser in the 66th minute
with a rasping drive that changed direction in mid-flight, deceiving the Dalian
keeper.
Fifteen minutes later and the Motors were in the
driving seat when Wang Jung-hyung made it 2-1 to the home side when he took a
looping cross from the right on his chest, swivelled and swept the ball into the
net via the inside of the post.
Kim Hyeung-bum came back with another goal to secure
Jeonbuk's progression to the knockout stage at the expanse of Dalian, the 2003
semi-finalists
