PYONGYANG, May 17 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Wednesday confirmed that former South Korean President Kim Dae-jung will pay a visit to Pyongyang in June, the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Wednesday.
During the working-level contact between the DPRK and
South Korea at Mt. Kumgang resort on May 16-17, "both sides clarified each
other's stands related to the visit of Kim Dae-jung to Pyongyang in June,
exchanged their views and discussed technical issues related to it," KCNA
reported.
The KCNA failed to give the specific date of Kim's
visit to the DPRK.
Both sides have decided to have the next round of
contact in Kaesong in the DPRK on May 29, the KCNA said.
Kim has said that he hopes to travel to the DPRK by
train, and is expected to meet with DPRK's leader Kim Jong-il during his trip.
In June 2000, Kim Dae-jung paid a historic visit to
Pyongyang during the first-ever inter-Korean summit. The visit was widely
regarded as a milestone in inter-Korean history as it paved the way for peaceful
cooperation and exchanges in various areas between the two sides. Enditem
