ROME, May 17 (Xinhua) -- Italy's new government was
formed Wednesday, more than a month after the center-left coalition led by
Romano Prodi won a razor-thin victory in the parliamentary elections.
Prime Minister designate Prodi announced the list of
his cabinet after submitting it to President Giorgio Napolitano for approval.
Former Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema was named as
foreign minister and former European Central Bank board member Tomasso
Padoa-Schioppa as economy minister.
The government is scheduled to be sworn-in by
President Giorgio Napolitano at 4:30 pm (1430 GMT).
The government must now win a confidence vote in
parliament. Prodi said the Cabinet would go before the lower house of parliament
starting Thursday, and would appear before the Senate early next week. Enditem
