Quake hits Tonga

    WELLINGTON, May 17 (Xinhua) -- A magnitude 5.8 earthquake hit South Pacific Tonga Wednesday with no immediate reports of damages.

    The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake, occurring at 10:55 local time (2055 GMT), was centered about 110 km (70 miles) of NUKU'ALOFA, capital of Tonga, which is about 2,085 km (1,290 miles) of Auckland, New Zealand. Quake's depth is 15km (9.3 miles).

    A strong earthquake measuring 8.0 rocked Tonga on May 4, which led to tsunami warning being initially issued for Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand and soon amended. Enditem
