National science event to take place next week

    BEIJING, May 16 (Xinhua) -- National Science Week, China's annual nationwide science publicity event, will focus on showing China's capability in conducting innovative scientific research and development.

    Li Pu, an official with the Ministry of Science and Technology which organizes the science week, said the 2006 National Science Week, from May 21 to 27, will promote the Guidelines for the National Long and Medium-term Science and Technology Development Plan.

    The event will show innovative capability of enterprises, draw on the youth for scientific research, serve the country's overall goal in building the new countryside, and publicize public safety and emergency management, Li said.

    The Beijing Municipal Government will host a park fiesta on promoting the Beijing Olympics as well as a healthy lifestyle. Shanghai is to exhibit its plan on increasing research and development prowess. Minority-residing Tibet and Xinjiang autonomous regions will also organize exhibitions or other events to improve public scientific awareness. Enditem
