Bangladesh is success story in population control

    DHAKA, May 15 (Xinhua) -- The visiting Executive Director of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Thoraya A Obaid said that Bangladesh is a success story in population control and we use Bangladesh as the reference in international fora.

    The UNFPA Executive Director made the comment while paying a courtesy call on Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan here Monday.

    During the meeting, the foreign minister appreciated the activesupport of the UNFPA for Bangladesh in achieving the success in this sector.

    He said, Bangladesh achieved a lot in health sector especially in population development, reproductive health and other preventive diseases.

    Obaid informed the minister that her organization is working toestablish a sub-regional Training Center in Dhaka on the disease of Fistula.

    Obaid, who is also UN under secretary general, became head of UNFPA on Jan. 1, 2001. She is in Bangladesh on a two-day visit. Enditem
