Chinese courts openly try four IPR violation cases

    BEIJING, May 15 (Xinhua) -- Four local people's courts on Monday heard four different intellectual property right (IPR) violation cases and handed the 13 defendants prison terms ranging from one to seven years.

    The people's court in Daxing District of Beijing on Monday sentenced Lin Rongzhou to two years in jail and fined him 60,000 yuan for transporting and selling 29,760 pirated DVDs in Beijing.

    The people's court in Hongkou District of Shanghai Municipality on Monday heard the case of a defendant surnamed Zhao who is chairman of a Taiwan-based company. In August 2001, Zhao together with his two accomplices, produced more than 2.3 million fake Toyota, Nissan, Mazda and Mitsubishi car parts and sold them for 14.75 million yuan.

    The court sentenced the defendant Zhao to four years in jail and fined him 400,000 yuan. The court gave his two accomplices three years and two years behind bars respectively with fines of 300,000 yuan and 200,000 yuan.

    The people's court in Suqian City of east China's Jiangsu Province/ heard the case of Zhang Qinghe was given three years imprisonment and fined 5,000 yuan, as he produced more than 100,000 fake labels for famous liquors.

    The Intermediate People's Court in Zhongshan city of south China's Guangdong Province on Monday also tried a fake brandy and whisky production and selling case. The accused Lai Shouqiang, together with his seven accomplices produced and sold more than 4,000 bottles of fake brandy and whisky from early 2004 to June 2005.

    The court sentenced Lai Shouqiang to seven years in prison with fine of 400,000 yuan. His seven accomplices were given imprison sentences ranging from one to three years and fined various sums. Enditem
