LOS ANGELES, May 14 (Xinhua) -- "Mission: Impossible III" topped the box office in North America for the second weekend in arow, raking in an estimate of 24.5 million dollars for the blockbuster featuring Tom Cruise.

The action-packed sequel easily beat new release "Poseidon," bringing its two-week take to about 84.6 million dollars, according to Los Angeles-based box office tracker Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc., which released estimates Sunday.

"Poseidon," a remake of the 1972 shipwreck movie "The Poseidon Adventure," brought in some 20.3 million dollars. Final figures for the Friday-to-Sunday period will be released Monday.

The Robin Williams family comedy "RV" came in third, bringing in about 9.5 million dollars. The film's three-week take was about42.8 million dollars.

New Lindsay Lohan comedy "Just My Luck" opened in fourth place with about 5.5 million dollars, while in fifth place was the horror movie, "An American Haunting," which brought in about 3.7 million dollars.

The weekend's top 12 grossing films brought in about 81.7 million dollars, compared with 94.5 million during the same weekend last year and 99.7 million last weekend.

The 13 percent drop breaks a seven-week "up" streak at the weekend box office, compared with the same periods last year. Enditem
