GAZA, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Hamas-led Palestinian cabinet called Saturday for
immediate and direct talks with Jordan over the alleged Hamas involvement in
smuggling weapons into Jordan for terror attacks.
"We called for a serious dialogue between Jordan and Hamas toreach a
positive result as the issue concerns Hamas," Palestinian cabinet's
Secretary-General Mohammed Awad told reporters. The call came after the Jordanian
TV on Thursday broadcasted the confession made by Hamas activists arrested by
Jordanian security forces for alleged involvement in attack attempts against
Jordan. The TV footage also showed big amounts of the seized weapons.
Jordanian government canceled a visit by Palestinian Foreign Minister
Mahmoud al-Zahar in April after accusing the Hamas leaders exiled in Syria of
plotting "terror attacks" against the Kingdom.
The Hamas-led government has refused to join a Palestinian delegation to
Amman for a briefing on alleged Hamas plot to attack Jordan, a charge denied by
Hamas as "totally false and groundless." Enditem |
