UNITED NATIONS, May 12 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on Friday called for instant cease-fire in Somalia.

In a statement released by his spokesman, Annan said he is deeply concerned at recent reports of increasing violence in Mogadishu, which has caused the deaths of over a hundred people and the displacement of thousands of noncombatants.

The secretary-general called on the warring factions to cease fire immediately, and urged all parties to support the Transitional Federal Institutions in their effort to implement theTransitional Charter.
