Lost ID card lands woman in trouble
www.chinaview.cn 2006-05-12 11:02:44

BEIJING, May 12 -- A Shenzhen woman was recently held liable by a local court for a traffic accident she knew nothing about but was actually caused by a vehicle purchased using her ID card.

The woman, surnamed Wang, was taken to court in April last year by prosecutors who said she should take responsibility for a traffic accident that killed two people. The vehicle, which caused the accident, was registered under WangĄ¯s name.

Wang said she lost her ID card seven years ago but did not report or register the lost ID card with the public security department, the Shenzhen Economic Daily reported Thursday.

Records at the vehicle management department and the industry and commerce bureau showed that Wang was registered as the owner of 10 vehicles, including the one that caused the accident.

The records had WangĄ¯s signature, a copy of her ID card and her picture. Tests showed that the signature was fake.

However, the court ruled that although the signature was fake, Wang should take the responsibility for not providing evidence that she had lost her ID card.

The driver of the vehicle, surnamed Huang, was held liable for the accident while Wang was held to have joint and several liability.

Huang said he did not know Wang.
