Venezuela beats Brazil 2-1 in S. America women's tennis

    CARACAS, May 11 (Xinhua) -- Venezuela's women's tennis squad beat their Brazilian rivals 2-1 at home on the third day of the South American Under-14 Tennis Championship on Thursday, local media reported.

    Venezuela's Andrea Gamiz beat Brazil's Marilla Camara 6-4, 2-6 and 6-3, and Raquel Diaz beat Brazil's Thais Xavier 6-4 and 6-3.

    Brazil's doubles team -- Camara and Isabela Miro -- pulled one point back, beating Venezuela's Andrea Gamex and Daniela Vida 6-7 (5), 6-1 and 6-1.

    The 10-nation contest, which takes place in the Cinco Aguilas Blancas stadium in the Merida in the Venezuelan Andes, is the qualifying round for the World Championship which takes place in the Czech Republic.

    Elsewhere in the women's competition, Paraguay downed Colombia 2-1, Chile beat Uruguay 3-0, the same scoreline for Argentina over Peru.

    In the men's actions, Venezuela beat Peru, Argentina triumphed over Chile, Ecuador defeated Uruguay, and Brazil breezed across Colombia, all with a 3-0 sheet. Enditem
