A 20-year-old girl was seriously wounded in the bombardment which targeted an Israeli-declared "no-go" zone in northern Gaza communities, medical sources said, adding another woman and a boy were slightly injured in the shelling.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Abu al-Riesh brigades, an armed offshoot of the Fatah movement, claimed responsibility for firing two home-made rockets into Israel Wednesday morning.

Israel has been shelling the northern Gaza area in retaliation for frequent Palestinian rocket attacks launched from the area toward southern Israeli cities.

Thousands of artillery shells have been fired at the area since the beginning of April, Palestinian security sources said. Most of shells land at open fields, causing damage to crops and forcing residents away of the buffer zone. Enditem
