Special report: Iran Nuclear Crisis

JAKARTA, May 10 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday accused the United States and other Western countries of pretending to be concerned about the Iranian nuclear program, saying they actually aimed to stop the access by other countries of modern science and technology.

"They are pretending that they are concerned with the nuclear program of Iran, but this is a big lie," said Ahmadinejad at a joint press conference held after the meeting with his Indonesian counterpart Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

All the reports so far prepared by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors indicated that there had been no violation of relevant stipulations by Iran, he said, adding that the U.S. and other Western countries themselves were engaged in non-peaceful nuclear activities and were expanding it day by day.

"I mean that those regimes have never had any record of complying with this provision of any international treaty or international law, and they themselves everyday tested new brand of weapon of mass destruction," he said.

These countries were trying just to manipulate modern technology and sciences and they wanted to prevent independent states from reaching the science and technology, he said.

"They want to keep such modern science and technology in their monopoly, so that they can sell that to other countries of the world with high cost, and this is the mean reason for their opposition to the peaceful nuclear program of the people of the Republic of Islamic Iran," he said.

The Iranian president arrived here on Wednesday. He is also scheduled to meet other political and religious leaders in Jakarta. He will fly to the resort of island of Bali on Friday for the conference of Eight Developing Countries. Enditem
