PRAGUE, May 9 (Xinhua) -- The number of women with breast cancer in the Czech Republic has increased by 120 percent in the past three decades, local media reported on Tuesday.

Out of a population of 10.24 million in the Czech Republic, 5,000 women have been diagnosed with breast cancer and 2,000 died of the disease each year, according to the latest statistics.

The Czech Republic's incidence of breast cancer ranks 16th in Europe and the mortality rate ranks 11th, according to the statistics.

Researchers said breast cancer is attributable to the hormone level, alcoholism, high-fat diet, lack of exercise and smoking.

The Czech government carried out medical examinations on 480,000 women last year, among whom 2,143 were diagnosed with breast cancer, the reports said. Enditem
