BRUSSELS, May 9 (Xinhua) -- India and Thailand have been put at the heart of Belgium's foreign policy in Asia, according to a policy document of Foreign Minister Karel De Gucht.
De Gucht's document on Asia has received the backing of the federal government, reported VRT news on Tuesday.
The new policy document will bring with it a more structured approach to Belgium's dealing with two of its increasingly important trading partners, said VRT news.
The foreign minister expects that "diversified and intelligent policies" will not only make it easier for Belgian business to invest in Asia but also attract Asian investors to Belgium.
De Gucht intends to invest in both the Belgian diplomatic presence in Asia and promoting Belgium in the continent's emerging economies.
Marketing Belgium as a visible brand in Asia is of the essence of his policy, De Gucht was quoted as saying.
He said more efforts need to be made to offer financial support to Belgian exporters, as well as to help Asian firms find strategic partners in Belgium.
Belgian universities will be called on to attract more Asian students, while Belgian students will also be encouraged to take a greater interest in Asia, said VRT news. Enditem |
