BRUSSELS, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Thousands of Ajax fans celebrated the team's win of the Gatorade Cup in Amsterdam on Monday evening but a small group of unbridled fans caused chaos after the official celebrations.
Two people were stabbed in a tumult among some fans, who lit small fires on the ground and refused to leave the Leidseplein square, an important tourist square in the city, Belgian news service Expatica reported Tuesday.
One of them was brought to hospital in an ambulance, it said.
Police arrested at least 25 people on the scene and more arrests are expected once video images of the rioting are examined.
Shop and restaurant windows were smashed and cars were damaged by the rioters. Riot police used batons and a water canon to clear the Leidseplein square.
Earlier on the evening, a party was held at the Stadsschouwburg theater in Leidseplein to mark the Ajax victory over PSI Eindhoven to win the Cup on Sunday.
But a group of fans ignored the appeals by the club to keep the celebrations peaceful and orderly and stayed at the square after the party to protest at the Ajax management decision to sack coach Danny Blind after only one season.
Blind's tenure at Ajax started badly, but recently he guided the Amsterdam team into the Champions League and crowned his success with the Gatorade Cup, the Dutch equivalent to the FA Cup in England.
Immediately following the 2-1 victory on Sunday, reports came out confirming Blind's replacement by Barcelona assistant coach Henk ten Cate. Enditem
