Stock markets open higher with major index at 1,503 points

    BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stock markets opened their morning session with their major index at 1,503.24 points, a record high this year.

    The Composite Stock Index on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, which comprises yuan-denominated A shares and foreign-currency B shares, opened at 1,503.24 points, up 6.14 points over the closing level of 1,497.1 points on Monday.

    The index went up 56.8 points, or 3.95 percent during Monday session, with its total turnover at 29.6 billion yuan (3.7 billion US dollars). Enditem

Chinese shares up 36% in 5 months

    BEIJING, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese share prices have jumped by 36 percent in the past five months, helped by efforts to revitalize its capital market and improved investor confidence at home and abroad.

Regulator lifts ban on share offerings

    BEIJING, May 9 -- The China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) will allow firms to resume capital raising on domestic stock exchanges from yesterday, ending a year-long ban and paving the way for companies like Air China to return to domestic exchanges.
