WASHINGTON, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The approval rating for U.S. President George
W. Bush remained low, with only 34 percent of Americans approving of his job
performance and 58 percent disapproving, a poll released on Monday showed.
The CNN poll found Bush's approval rating was two percentage points higher than
the most recent CNN poll in late April, and his disapproval rating was two
percentage points down from the last poll.
Disapproval among the public of the war in Iraq appeared to be a major
factor driving the public's low opinion of Bush's job performance, according to
the poll.
More than half of those who disapproved of Bush's job performance - 56 percent
- said the war in Iraq was the reason, while 13 percent said the recent increase
in gas prices had fueled their displeasure.
The poll was conducted of 1,021 adults between Friday and Sunday, and had sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. Enditem |
