PARIS, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Former France captain Marcel Desailly said on Sunday he has ended his playing career.

Desailly confirmed his retirement on French TV station Canal Plus but added: "I'm going to continue to work in football."

A member of France's 1998 World Cup and 2000 European championship-winning teams, the 37-year-old defender earned a French record of 116 caps before retiring from international soccer in 2004.

Desailly made his professional debut at Nantes and helped Olympique Marseille win the Champions League in 1993 before moving to AC Milan.

He lifted again the continental trophy with the Italian side in 1994.

He played for English Premier League club Chelsea before joining Qatar's Al Gharafa in 2004. He has been without a club since November 2005. Enditem
