Sepcial Report: Tension accelerates in Iraq

    BAGHDAD, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Three car bombings in northern Baghdad neighborhoods killed at least 12 people and wounded another 26 on Sunday, police said.

    One car bomb exploded in the Iraqi Shi'ite holy city of Karbala, killing five and wounding 18 near the province's government building.

    Minutes after the bombing in Karbala, two car bombs went off in Baghdad almost at the same time, one targeting an Iraqi army patrol, leaving eight dead and 15 wounded. The second bombing killed one civilian and wounded five.

    Karbala is about 80 kilometers south of Baghdad. Security forces began closing main streets after the bombing. Enditem
