Turkey to host European Champion Clubs Cup of wheelchair basketball

    ANKARA, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's century-old Besiktas Club will host the European Champion Clubs Cup of wheelchair basketball in Istanbul between May 5 and 7, the Turkish Daily News (TDN) newspaper reported on Wednesday.

    "We do this in the name of the millions of handicapped Turkish citizen," Murat Aksu, the vice chairman of Besiktas Club, said at a news conference in the Besiktas Akatlar Culture and Sports Center.

    "Besiktas has a rich tradition of supporting all kinds of sport throughout its 103-year history and this sponsorship only cements our relations with the greater community," he added.

    Turkish Handicapped Sports Federation Vice Chairman Ibrahim Gumusdal said at the conference that he guaranteed the arena would be filled with spectators and thanked Besiktas for its efforts.

    Besiktas won the right to host the event against competition from other clubs in France, Germany and Holland, TDN said. Enditem
